How we check the information

We research remotely, from operators’ own pages and official sources. We say where each fact comes from, when we checked it, and when we could not confirm something.

Where the facts come from

  • Operators’ own websites: pickup areas and days, guide languages, duration, what is included and cancellation terms for each variant of a tour. Some tours are sold by a local travel agency rather than by the company that runs them; then the agency’s page is the source, and the card says when the operating company is not confirmed.
  • Official sources: the Spanish government register of authorised whale-watching boats (MITECO), the Cabildo de Tenerife and its Tenerife ON platform for Teide permits, the national park, the cable car operator and the official Masca trail website.
  • Booking platforms are only used to see whether a tour is sold there. We do not copy their descriptions, photos, prices or reviews.

Three statuses for every fact

Confirmed The source states it explicitly for that tour variant.

Conditional It depends on the day, area or season, or the sources contradict each other (we say how).

Unknown We found no evidence. Unknown does not mean “no”, and it never counts as a match in our lists.

Needs re-check It was confirmed, but its review date has passed and we have not checked it again yet.

Dates and reviews

Each tour card shows the date we last checked the record and its next review date, about 30 days later; under “Sources and dates” every source is listed with the facts it supports and the date we read it. When the review date passes, the record’s confirmed facts are shown as “Needs re-check” and no longer count as confirmed when we order the lists, until we check them again. Official rules such as the Teide permit are rechecked before a guide that cites them is updated.

How we order the options

Lists are ordered by how complete our checked information is, then alphabetically. We currently earn nothing from bookings, so nothing commercial affects the order. If we add affiliate links in future, they will be labelled “Ad” and will still not decide the order.

Use of AI

We use AI tools to organise research notes and draft text. Before a page is published, the editor reviews its facts against the sources listed with them. Nothing on the site is presented as a personal experience.

Corrections

If something is wrong or out of date, please tell us through the contact page. We correct it, update the check date and, for significant changes, add a dated note to the page.
