Organised day trip or ferry on your own

Organised day trip. A coach collects you, you cross on the ferry, and a guide drives you through Garajonay National Park and the villages, usually with lunch included. You see the interior of the island without driving its mountain roads.

Ferry on your own. Ferry companies sail several times a day from Los Cristianos to San Sebastián. It suits you if you only want the town and a beach, or want to hire a car on La Gomera, but you need to get to the port and plan around the ferry times.

What to compare between La Gomera day trips

  • Pickup area and day: most trips collect from the south; northern pickups are fewer.
  • Language: whether you can book an English group, and whether the operator says so at all.
  • What the day includes: ferry, lunch, entrance to the visitor centre.
  • Return time: you are usually back in the evening.

Questions people ask

Can you visit La Gomera in a day from Tenerife?

Yes. Ferries leave from Los Cristianos for San Sebastián de La Gomera, and organised day trips combine the ferry, a coach tour of the island and usually lunch. It is a long day, roughly from early morning to evening.

Is La Gomera worth visiting for just a day?

For a first look, yes. An organised day trip shows you Garajonay and several towns or villages by coach or 4x4. Going on your own gives you more freedom, but you need to plan around the ferry times.

Is an organised trip better than taking the ferry on my own?

It depends on whether you want to see the inside of the island. On your own you can walk around San Sebastián or hire a car; the organised trip handles the ferry tickets, the drive through Garajonay and lunch, but follows a fixed route.

Do La Gomera trips pick up from my hotel?

The trips we checked list pickups in the south and, on set days, in Puerto de la Cruz; some only name a general southern area, so confirm your stop with the seller. If you go on your own, you need to get to Los Cristianos port.

What language is the guide on the island?

It varies and is not always stated. One 4x4 trip lets you book a jeep by language; one coach trip lists several languages without saying whether they are mixed on the coach; for another we found no language at all. The guide row on each card shows exactly what we found.

What happens if the ferry is cancelled?

Rough seas can delay or cancel sailings. Tour operators set their own refund rule; check the cancellation row and the operator’s conditions.
